This is the first announcement on video I’m trying out.
This is the first announcement on video I’m trying out.
Make sure this week you tell a story of a time in your life where you needed to show extreme discipline. When we let the students know how it is through our lens, they definitely capture the message more. Combatives Seminar this Saturday. Free for you guys again. Hope to see you there. Remind the students this week there’s no Combatives class nor open mat. That this Combatives class is Open for Enrollment at $100. 10-2pm. All Skill Levels. 10 Spots max. This will be part 2 of the clinch series, yet is much more simple than the body lock series. We will get deeper into knife defense.
Beginners: Sequencing
Focus on putting together some Offense chaining like
-Run the pipe single to 1/2 guard pass to Side Mount Escape
-Run the Pipe Single to Half guard pass to Key Lock/Americana
– Half Guard Pass to Regard to Armbar or Scissor sweep. Something from previous months
Intermediate: Samesies (These are simply examples. know the room)
-Double leg>SM>butterfly reguard>Pass
-Double Leg >Butterfy Guard>hop over Pass>Back to choke
-Run Pipe Single>Half guard>Crazy Dog pass hopover>back >guillotine
Continuation week:
I’m seeing the pace needs to be slowed down. Especially for the beginners. Let’s have another week of passing half guard and escaping side mount. Lots of specific training before regular training. So it’s good it’ll be alot of live. After a guard pass you can do a submission like a key lock. after a replacement you can have them do a sweep like the scissor sweep, or a submission like the arm bar just so they don’t lose the stuff we did in January and February. But this way we get a little bit of offense/defense combo.
Intermediate classes I’d like to continue as well. with the kids I was doing butterfly guard pass chaining of duck walk to hop over. Now I want that same movement taught with the crazy dog half guard pass to hop over via the same counter from the person on bottom. This is a great way to begin taking the back which ends up in the “last second” drop back to guillotine when you can’t get the far hook in for the extra four points. That’s the Friday/saturday move at least for kids. Adults, if you’re teaching intermediate, just play around with what we’ve been working on and add your stuff in.
Word of the Month Discipline! Complete the Triforce. Talk about Discipline and how and why its different than a punishment. Discipline comes from a place of caring and wanting our youth to succeed and be better. Punishment is done out of anger and frustration. Our parents, teachers, and coaches only want to see them all succeed and that’s why Discipline is our word of the month….plus some of these kids NNEEEEEEED to hear that shit.
Good Month of February guys. Classes are still going strong. We signed up some more students. The students seem to really be into the content despite struggling with that Omoplata. We got some new shirts in this week and last week. We’re comping everyone one of the new uniform Tee’s so if you haven’t gotten yours yet, see anyone at the front desk and they’ll make a note of which color and size you got.
Combatives is 3/20. Free for you guys. Just let me know if you’re attending because its going to be limited spacing as always and I don’t want to oversell it. 10-4pm again. Tie Clinch scenarios with the same focuses. Access to our weapons. Retention of our weapons. Aquisition of theirs and prevention from their draw. Knife integration. and of course  Scenarios. There will be overlap where we do some of the same things in all the classes. That’s good, that allows us to build a strong skill set and foundation. Moon, Jara, Jesse, if you’re collecting cash from a student that attended last time, its just $60 for them like i promised for this second part (just this once). For every other student its $100…outsider is $250.
Moon is in Training camp starting this week, fighting next month, April, in Atlanta. Let’s give him the bodies, pad holders, and coaching that a pro athlete needs to succeed.
Product of the month is Rash Guards: Buy any Rash guard 10% off, get the shorts or Spats(buyers choice) at 30% off.
Additionally we are starting a Little Thrashers class on M and W. We now have an A group and  B group for those 4-6 year olds.
Beginners:
Head inside Run the Pipe Single Leg
Knee Cut-Could be from Standing HQ or from grounded half guard depending on how one lands
Side Mount Escape
Intermediate:
Passing Butterfly Guard
This Saturday 11-12pm will be the monthly drills where we make sequences of all of the techniques we taught this month.
Curriculums up tomorrow. But you’ll be wrapping up closed guard attacks from the bottom. Make any closing adjustments you’d like on these things.
Courage: Let’s tell a story of where we had to dig deep and use courage ourselves, we can ask the students if they ever had scenarios they’d like to share with us where they had to use courage as well.
Saturday:Â I am running a Combatives class 10am -4pm all of the instructors may attend for FREE if you’d like. I’m offering it to our students for $60. This is a $250 course easily normally. I just feel like doing something nice for us. We will be learning how to do weapon integration with our Martial Arts. This is an all around course, a little bit on the ground ( not much), little on the feet, little on the barrier. We will break out the training knives, the air soft weapons etc. If you have a blue gun that replicates your carry weapon, bring it. If not, bring your carry weapon in, and holster. We will flag(zip tie) the firearms rendering them inoperable. This course will be insightful to those who have minimal training in this regard. It is an intermediate course. Must have some firearms and grappling experience to attend. You don’t have to be an Operator, so don’t think its too advanced for you. you don’t have to be Wyatt Earp to shoot someone 0 feet away from you. But if you don’t know how to load your gun, maybe watch a little and sit this one out.
If you are doing it, Please tell me. Don’t just show up. I’m doing 16 total spots ONLY. This will be very eye opening.
Curriculums:
We know what Sub to Sub offenses we’ve been doing these past weeks. Now lets start to incorporate Sub to sub, sub to sweep, and sweep to sub based off of what you’ve been working on in each of the programs
Word of the month is Courage. Tell a story about a courageous person and what they did whether fictitious or real for the mat chats. Every day, every class. different stories if you’re leading the same group.
This Saturday the couples personal protection workshop. mention it after the classes. we have 5/15 potential spots filled.
Curriculums: later tonight or tomorrow. We are sticking with the guard offense though. all month.
Beginners: Arm Bar from Guard (offense Defense)
Brief them on what we did last week. In fact have them warm up with the TSU and the scissor sweep. 2x2min drills for each for the kids at least.
Armbar from guard- Do it from cross collar and sleeve grip since thats what we started from last week.
Armbar Defense via stack- Try not to get to this until they can do an arm bar correctly
Intermediate: Continue based off of what you taught last week. Create Sequencing of offense defense combinations. I did arm bar to triangle and will continue that through the end of the month moving into omoplata back and forth and so on. If you like you can do Sub >sweep like arm bar to stack to pendulum sweep. thats simple and can maybe be done next week in fundamentals class, but you all know sometimes the same techniques NEED to cross over into the advanced classes.
So we competed this weekend. We did as expected with the crew. We had some did not so well, some medium, some medium well, some really good.
Kids:
Jace: Did horrible, cried on bottom for 3 full rounds and never stopped crying between matches, had an anxiety attack I feel.
Christian: Got crushed, he has some survival instincts, but needs to have basic stance fixed, multiple matches I’ve seen him have people get behind him standing. He needs to be coached in the basics.
The Ngo boy that thinks he’s too good for the beginner class: Got wrecked
Kaleb Ngo: won one lost one, great attitude and humble. still doesn’t understand undercooks on top or passing guard.
Mikayla: Won no gi 2-1. 3rd in gi 1-1 i think
Joziah: 2-1…won 3 matches got DQd for an Ezekiel after the fact…I told him Ezekiel was legal when he asked me… my fault.. he dominated.
Adults:Â
Scott Barton: performed to his level for his inability to train and being sick lately. lost two matches. Gassed, I know he hasn’t been able to train
K: Won two lost two, alot of promise
Rex: eliminated any thoughts I had about him getting a blue belt. He should be embarrassed by hisself for his no gi division. Gi he beat the same guy twice.
Kaleb: Dominated, testing for blue belt next weekend.
Curriculum:
Beginners:
Double Leg again landing into the closed guard. Touch on fundamentals of stance, break falls, and a couple of setups as the week progresses for the same double leg takedown.
Sprawls again as well.
Guard attacks:
Cross Collar and Sleeve Knee shield:
-Get back up to the feet
-Scissor Sweep
Intermediate:
-Either do failed Ouchi-Gari to a secondary takedown or a setup that leads to an Ouchi-gari
-attacks from guard involving the legs…meaning arm bar , triangle , omoplata….not guillotines, kimuras, and such.
Hey guys, I’m really thrilled with how classes have been going lately and everyones energy levels no matter the program/class being taught. Jesse has been getting leads in the door and I know Moon aka “the covid kid” Â is about to open the flood gates as well. Tim Blue is back in action all week after thinking he had covid, but he just had to poop. We have a competition 1/30 on Saturday. I will be going along with anyone else to cartersville to support our competitors. Lets make sure there’s lots of positional sparring this week to get the kids what they need. I’ve included our competitors list. Once again what’s missing is participation from our Killers class. Let’s ask them what’s going on as far as participation. If they don’t know they don’t know, if it’s parents are afraid of rona, say less, end it there. But I’d like to get an idea on what’s up. They’re participation is certain to bring victories for us, bringing hardware, bringing my ability to highlight that to our students, bringing us more retention, and competition goals from the younger age groups. We have a great program with those kids, and not so much participation, but I got a feeling they like to compete.
Adults: Kay, Scott Barton, Kaleb
Kids: Morgan, Mikayla, Christian, Josiah, Jace
Curriculum: Knee on Belly to Finishes
Can warm up or Re Review the stuff we’ve done all month with the other age groups , making them make sequences if capable .Beginners should focus on arm bar, X choke, short choke to the back, these examples that are in the curriculum of moves I posted here recently for white to gray.

this week by Thursday ill get to  when they turn in 1. far side arm bar 2. Brabo choke
We’re off to a great start this year. Not getting the amount of new students yet that we did last year, but getting alot of retention, which I’m happy with. Participation is starting to get better amongst the Intermediate and up classes. If you’d like make some preliminary warmups a continuation of previous weeks techniques. Takedown. Guard Opener. Torreando Pass. If the mats are packed we have many pass based partner drills we’ve discussed to open with.
Beginners:
Knee on Belly Escape: Bump shrimp  to the Single Leg Takedown
Mobility: Windshield Wiping & Stepping around the Head
Attack: Back Attack Riding the Wave to the back Mount that we’ve done in previous weeks (that was done via the kick pass from headquarters), Bow and Arrow while they’re on their side after you spin behind, arm bar. Manipulate this dependent on the group.
Advanced:
Mobility is the theme. so any attacks you like after your movement following their initial defense.
