Hey guys hope everyone is doing well. Miss you guys! Lets work to pass the guard this week for everyone.

Beginners: via the Guillotine or Kimura Defense, Open the guard and Pass. Feel free to move to submission. Pick any pass you like from the grounded position. so no standing passing. knee cuts, old schools, double unders is all good.

Advanced: Pass the RDLR and DLR guard by moving to headquarters so heavy on knee cut but can combine to alternates like knee cut to crazy dog to redirection.

or knee cut to long step to redirect to leg weave. Stay away from leg drags and bullfighter in the adv I’ll touch up on this later.

Hey guys. I just wanted to give y’all a heads up. I’ll be out of town next week July 19-24th doing a Combatives Course at the AF Academy. Everybody has been doing a good job this summer and we’re almost to the end. Keep In mind that back to school is coming and the kids will be back in full force soon dealing with the problems that many face of being picked on or ostracized and parents and children will be back looking to develop their Childs self defense, social skills, and confidence. Can’t lose focus on the level of impact we get to make here. They’ll need us so lets make sure we have that energy leveling up in August ready to improve character development, athletic talent, and mental fortitude.

Beginners this week:

Go for the Guillotine and Defense to it via Kimura Sit-up positions

After Escaping a guillotine let’s start prepping to posture , open guard, and pass for next week.

Hope Andrew had a good time at band camp. Kaleb, if you picked something up in NY, you better fucking share it. I’ll be out 7/9-7/11 to Instruct some Seminars in TX. I’ll take the camera and I’ll be uploading the content to the Online Academy here.

Great Feedback at the meeting on Friday guys I appreciate you all and your comments especially in regard to fundamentals classes.

Functional/Technical Warmups. Lets do them. No more running at night. John does a great job of this, let’s do more. you have 15 min of warmup time. Make it happen. Same warmups the whole week for all fundamentals classes. (Monday we’re just jumping in so those will carry over tues/thurs/sat)

Also here’s how the new “themes” will work for a while.

Monday- my no gi beginners classes will be less instruction and more doing, a lot of drills, some instruction but mostly in sequence.

Tuesday- The “normal” class. 2-3 techniques, giving students at least 7 minutes to drill techniques, where the instructor is really hands on and points out details and then 15 min training

Thursday– This will be Positional Sparring day. So the instructor will teach 1-2 techniques. 25 min live. 10 positional 15 regular. 25 positional. 15 positional 10 regular. you get it, I don’t care the ratio. it can be what you feel the class needs. Let’s try this. Keep the initial positional training relative to the classes of the week, then you can branch out to other stuff.

Beginners: This week we will closed guard play from the Kimura setups to the finish! Next week we will work defense to passing.
Kimura, Guillotine, Hip Bump, drags to the back , omoplata etc. A lot of cool sequences will happen tonight

Advanced Kids Classes: Taking the back from RDLR & DLR

Advanced Adults: Mix of DLR & Spider/Lasso Guard Play through this week

6/27-7/2: Welcome Back John, Jesse, & Tim!

Week of 6/21-6/26: Sequencing

From top to bottom start incorporating sequences involving what we’ve been doing for two months.

Takedowns to back control, to attacks and defenses.

Duck under>mat return>back take>Japanese escape

duck under>mat return>back take>chair sit >armbar>Spider web escape>pass>back take>finish

these are two examples only. make sure the techniques apply to the classes you’ve been working with and they can handle the material. Some classes the sequencing will be as short as back take from turtle to back escape. Some classes will be vast. I’m teaching a seminar of spider/lasso and DLR in Texas in a few weeks, so in my advanced classes im going to be changing directions completely from what we’ve been doing most of the year. I’ll be simplifying the beginner level curriculums so at least we stay on the same themes.

Side note: We will be severely understaffed this week. Any help with cleaning the mats, extra assistance in classes is appreaciated. We got Jesse, John, Tim Blue, and Andrew out for most to all of the week.

Instructor Focus Points: Let’s make sure we don’t talk tooooo much during Beginners classes. I think at the LEAST the groups should get 7 minutes drilling a move set every time we break to drill(thats 2-3 times in a class minimum). Additionally they should get 15 minutes of live training in adult fundamentals  now that they are all one hour long, and 12 minutes for the kids beginners. If they were getting 10 min before, in the 45 min classes, there’s not a reason for them to only be getting 1-2 x3 minute rounds now. So monitor your instruction, be deliberately concise.

Glad to be back, I hope last week was amazing. Getting to share the mats with Royce was really, just awesome. Got one really good thing, I thought, but most of it was classic UFC 1 blue print. I enjoyed that though. He stuck to what he knows best.

I’d like to see sequencing and chaining within Jiu Jitsu of the different things we’ve been doing for 5 weeks. If you guys need to touch up or go a different direction, feel free, I’ll catch up with you all on how last week went with content and what to change within context for the upcoming weeks.

Kickboxing- stay with power development. Hard strikes please.

MMA-GNP technique/Warmup- breaking collar ties and punching to Half guard. Live: Ground & Pound, but the purpose is solely to get up from the bottom, even if you’re a guard guy, don’t do it, get up on the wall.

Wednesday: Extra Pads with Cole

Thursday: Wall Wrestling(reshot work) Punching a grounded opponent who builds to a 3 point or turtled base, move to front head lock or the back as they stand, and finish with a takedown.

I’ll follow up with instructors next week to find out where we’re all at. we should be chaining chokes to armlocks and submission chaining like pros by the end of next week. I miss you guys already whilst im typing this in Chicago. call me if you guys need ANYTHING. Im glad to send techniques via video or whatever y’all need. I’m pretty available. Ill be on the mats (updated daily)
Tuesday: 12:30pm and 7:30pm calls time.
