So we competed this weekend. We did as expected with the crew. We had some did not so well, some medium, some medium well, some really good.

Kids:

Jace: Did horrible, cried on bottom for 3 full rounds and never stopped crying between matches, had an anxiety attack I feel.

Christian: Got crushed, he has some survival instincts, but needs to have basic stance fixed, multiple matches I’ve seen him have people get behind him standing. He needs to be coached in the basics.

The Ngo boy that thinks he’s too good for the beginner class: Got wrecked

Kaleb Ngo: won one lost one, great attitude and humble. still doesn’t understand undercooks on top or passing guard.

Mikayla: Won no gi 2-1. 3rd in gi 1-1 i think

Joziah: 2-1…won 3 matches got DQd for an Ezekiel after the fact…I told him Ezekiel was legal when he asked me… my fault.. he dominated.

Adults:

Scott Barton: performed to his level for his inability to train and being sick lately. lost two matches. Gassed, I know he hasn’t been able to train

K: Won two lost two, alot of promise

Rex: eliminated any thoughts I had about him getting a blue belt. He should be embarrassed by hisself for his no gi division. Gi he beat the same guy twice.

Kaleb: Dominated, testing for blue belt next weekend.

Curriculum:

Beginners:

Double Leg again landing into the closed guard. Touch on fundamentals of stance, break falls, and a couple of setups as the week progresses for the same double leg takedown.

Sprawls again as well.

Guard attacks:

Cross Collar and Sleeve Knee shield:

-Get back up to the feet

-Scissor Sweep

Intermediate:

-Either do failed Ouchi-Gari to a secondary takedown or a setup that leads to an Ouchi-gari

-attacks from guard involving the legs…meaning arm bar , triangle , omoplata….not guillotines, kimuras, and such.

Hey guys, I’m really thrilled with how classes have been going lately and everyones energy levels no matter the program/class being taught. Jesse has been getting leads in the door and I know Moon aka “the covid kid”  is about to open the flood gates as well. Tim Blue is back in action all week after thinking he had covid, but he just had to poop. We have a competition 1/30 on Saturday. I will be going along with anyone else to cartersville to support our competitors. Lets make sure there’s lots of positional sparring this week to get the kids what they need. I’ve included our competitors list. Once again what’s missing is participation from our Killers class. Let’s ask them what’s going on as far as participation. If they don’t know they don’t know, if it’s parents are afraid of rona, say less, end it there. But I’d like to get an idea on what’s up. They’re participation is certain to bring victories for us, bringing hardware, bringing my ability to highlight that to our students, bringing us more retention, and competition goals from the younger age groups. We have a great program with those kids, and not so much participation, but I got a feeling they like to compete.

Adults: Kay, Scott Barton, Kaleb

Kids: Morgan, Mikayla, Christian, Josiah, Jace

Curriculum: Knee on Belly to Finishes

Can warm up or Re Review the stuff we’ve done all month with the other age groups , making them make sequences if capable .Beginners should focus on arm bar, X choke, short choke to the back, these examples that are in the curriculum of moves I posted here recently for white to gray.

Also Saturday we are going to try this for the first time: a Monthly review for BJJ 11-12 and then 12-1 open mat.

Here are the sequences to be performed:

Fundamentals Attendees

1)Blast Double (other person break falls), Hip bump(they post), to guillotine

2) Failed Blast double>Sprawl> one of 3 front head lock guillotines a. just neck b. arm in c. arm across

3)Blast Double>Open guard by standing technique>Bull Fighter pass to Knee on Belly>Single leg escape>Sprawl to guillotine

4)Same as above , but a Submission from Knee on Belly

5) Different Sub

Advanced:

1)Ouchigari>Open Guard by Standing technique>Shoot through knee cut from their shitty knee shield with no grips

2)Ouchigari>Open Guard by Standing Technique>Bull Fighter Pass> Back take or Truck Options

3)Above to Maverick Position Options Triangle/Arm Bar

4)Above to Far side Chair Sit

5)Ouchigari > Arm Trap guard opener >Pass> They Bridge >Arm Triangle and cranks

6)Above >Hammer Lock>Twister Back take with Police Lock>Rear Naked Choke

We’re off to a great start this year. Not getting the amount of new students yet that we did last year, but getting alot of retention, which I’m happy with. Participation is starting to get better amongst the Intermediate and up classes. If you’d like make some preliminary warmups a continuation of previous weeks techniques. Takedown. Guard Opener. Torreando Pass. If the mats are packed we have many pass based partner drills we’ve discussed to open with.

Beginners:

Knee on Belly Escape: Bump shrimp  to the Single Leg Takedown

Mobility: Windshield Wiping & Stepping around the Head

Attack: Back Attack Riding the Wave to the back Mount that we’ve done in previous weeks (that was done via the kick pass from headquarters), Bow and Arrow while they’re on their side after you spin behind, arm bar. Manipulate this dependent on the group.

Advanced:

Mobility is the theme. so any attacks you like after your movement following their initial defense.

Hey guys great job last week. We completed our first week of the year! Great attendance in the beginning, the rain hurt us a little. Advanced classes were pretty non existent, this gotta change. If you need to start reaching out to our blues and up, go head with your bad selves.

Word of the Month: Respect- Make note that nobody mentioned themselves in people they should respect. Self respect is very important, and one of the ways we can respect ourselves is holding ourselves accountable for our own actions as well as the actions of our “friends” If we see something thats uncool, we should call them on it. Same with ourselves. Adjust the scenarios depending on the age groups you’re talking with. Mention one thing or one way in which you have self respect, if it is in regard to accountability, mention how. This is good for us too.

Curriculums up momentarily

 All Skill Levels

With last weeks takedown scenarios leading us to the full guard on the ground, Lets presume we didn’t get that guillotine we wanted and now its the top guys turn to open the guard while standing. Feel Free to review the basic guillotine from front headlock or guard, depending on where you set it up from. I know that due to space restrictions, we had to alter the curriculum on tuesday.

Guard Opener: Pin both hands to their chest, step up with both legs and move to 2 hands on one knee

Pass: Torreando

Knee on Belly: Movement to Submission

Alright Gentlemen, Let’s start the New Year off by getting back to some basic Jiu Jitsu and an emphasis on the dealing with the Closed Guard. Since it’s week one of the month. Lets look at getting there. We will be doing Top as well as bottom work from the Closed Guard this month. We have some different instructors working with Kid’s and some with adults. Put your own flavor on it. Below I’ll give my take on what I’ll likely teach for the classes.

Word of the Month: Respect- from our Triforce Ethos. Talk about what it is, and who are some individuals you respect and why. Let’s ask some of the students who they respect.

1)A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

2) To hold one in high regard and admiration

Beginners: Content this week

Adult Warmups:

Hand Fighting and Grip Breaks- 2 minutes

Pummeling-2 minutes

Forward and Reverse Shrimping from Butterfly Guard- 1 min per

Break Falls from Catchers position- 2 min

Closed Guard Stand Ups- 1 minute per

Push Pull Triangles- 1 minute per

Swinging Arm Bars-1 min per

Double Leg Shots while partner stands in  a T position (arms spread out)- 1 min per

Curriculum

Double Leg Takedown

Sprawl

Guillotine ( Standing or Grounded)

Cole’s Class Monday Double Leg. Sprawl. Dropping into a guillotine from front Headlock

Cole’s Combatives Class: Punch Block to Underhook and Frame/Post>Passing the Head from weapon side to support side> Putting them out on their feet with the Guillotine

Intermediate: Inside Trip/ Ouchi Gari

After Hitting the Ouchi Gari, Look to open the Closed Guard  with your favorite Opener to singular Guard pass

(meaning no chaining)

After Mon/Tuesday, lets chain some takedowns either that lead to the ouchi Gari, or that start with it and move on to something else.
