Week of 1/10-1/6: Application of ETHOS

We now know the definition of an ethos. The students should also know what our ethos is. Now ask them what are some ways they can implement each word into their daily lives. They should have a response by the next class they attend. Let the kids talk at length with regard to this.

Announcement 1: Great first week of classes guys. I know the MMA was a big hit. Let’s continue this trend and motivate our students to push harder whether that’s rolling harder, drilling smarter, or just making Martial Arts training more of a priority.

Announcement 2: I got the CoVid. Remember me. :). Keep on the DL, I just want you guys to know why you don’t see me on the schedule. Someone tell Shane he’s teaching Tuesday night. and tell him to not fuck this up.

Curriculums tomorrow.

Opening Year Statement

https://vimeo.com/662061256/9fadb6cad2

Word of the Month: Ethos- “The characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its beliefs and aspirations.” What is our Ethos, its simple “Respect. Courage. Discipline.” All schools have an ethos, mascots usually represent that ethos in some kind of way. What’s your schools mascot? what do you think that means as far as the importance of the schools culture and its students? Think about our academies ethos and how we are trying to impact you as a martial artist.

Youth Classes 7+– Wrestling Beginners and Advanced

Of course we can go over all aspects of Jiu Jitsu, because that’s what we teach here. But make this whole month about developing our students WRESTLING capabilities. Getting on top, getting up from the bottom, Top control, Bottom escapes, making and breaking grips, Top Spins, sit outs, ALL THE FUN STUFF. Isolate the live training with specific training. Takedowns only. Hold em down in certain positions. start them off in positions like a single or unlocked double. king of the hill, get on top drills like when they sit back to back , both have singles ,etc. There are many things to use this month.

Let week 1 be about STANCE, HAND FIGHTING, DOUBLE LEG, SPRAWL

Beginner &. Advanced Adults: Takedown to Half Guard Passing vs guard recovery

Warmups should include break falls half shot drills, shrimp to guards, whatever the skillset of the room.

Hey guys, hope everyone had a good week last week. We are starting to build the schedule in Dublin so Tim B. won’t be here at MMA on Wednesdays anymore, We have Katelyn out this week, and I’m heading to Florida to support Parrumpa getting his 6th Degree, I’ll also get my 3rd while down there. This month, me and Joe are training theWRPD guys their MANDATORY DT. I’ll be here Monday but not Wednesday. If you can come in and help Joe on Wed, it’d be appreciated.

A heads up for the following week, I’ll be gone helping a mentor and friend teach some Oklahoma Park Rangers with their Combatives training. Joe will have the reigns, but all the help is appreciated.

Generosity: Look inward and find some ways you have been generous either recently or a moment where you gave instead of received, and talk about how fulfilling it was/is.

Continue with the curriculums from last week. branch into instructors choice for techniques.

Week of Nov 28th-December something: Welcome Back

Hope everyone had a good Holiday. Word of the month for December is GENEROSITY. Let’s be mindful that with all of the money circulating, being spent, hoping for presents, it’s important to be generous and giving with our time, energy, and knowledge. We are all being pulled in many directions and getting worn down at the end of the year. However a generous person will give MORE than what’s expected encourage our students to do the same. Don’t be what is expected, be more, raise the bar.

Intermediate, Butterfly pass attacks into submission.

Beginner: Let’s get back to opening and passing closed guard while staying grounded   and Old school+ knee cut passing from chest to chest. Also moving to mount as an option. Trap Bridge and roll as the escape.

Week of 11/21-11/26: Happy Thanksgiving!

Very chill week for us guys. I think we’ve all earned a nice little break. A No Contest wasn’t what we were looking for with Lathon’s fight, but I couldn’t be more proud of the level of maturity shown in and out of the cage, the evolution as a man and martial artist, and the picture perfect technique for much of the fight that did happen. We will learn something from this and take that lesson and move forward. Here is the weeks schedule. We will have the PJJ classes, they serve us, we will serve them this week.  Belt Testing on Saturday. We will throw an open mat on Friday at some point. if anyone would like to host it or participate in it let me know. I’ll be in town regardless. If you’d like to aid in belt testing, please see me.  I’m very grateful for you all. Enjoy the week

11/14-11/20: Fight WEEK!

We’re Proud that Lathon is fighting this weekend! Make Sure you support by attending the event or watching live on FloCombat. We may do a stream at the academy as well for all of Lathon’s supporters that can’t make it to the ATL.

Decency: We now know what decency is, what our instructors look for as far as decent behavior in a good JJ student. What are some ways that showing decency helps prepare one for life outside of JJ? We want free thinkers, but conforming to society’s rules for goodness, moral compass, and general standards can make ones life alot easier.

All Levels  guard offense vs defense. We did side mount recovery to  butterfly guard for intermediate. Show an offense from the bottom, and show a defense/pass/counter for the top player. Alot of positional this week. Apply the guard of choice that was used for the  beginner group

Hope everyone is doing good. We had some good classes last week. Good to see that attendance bumping back up. WOW what an incredible seminar set from Yves. The ground was good, the Striking was SUPERB. Fighting someone of the opposite stance can be very difficult for many. I’ll be out Saturday doing a Women’s Defense seminar in Cordele, GA. I know Jesse is out of state Fri/Sat. Joe and Tim Rhodes are gone some this week, and Katelyn is gone on Tuesday. So I’ve got some re-arranging to do. I will post M/Tuesday schedules as I def know what they are.

Decency. I’m sure the intoduction to the word was done last week. What does it mean to you to be a decent person, a decent JIU JITSU STUDENT!!!. Let the students know what you think is decent behavior on the mat and how their decency translates to your respect(the WOM in January).

Beginner: Guard Attacks off of side mount recoveries.

Intermediate:Let’s get started with some Butterfly Guard. Escape bottom side mount and/or bottom half guard to butterfly guard. Hook Sweep for half guard recovery, and hand fighting to arm drag in the open for side mount recovery. Determine which one you think is easiest based off of the skill level of the group!

Thank you guys for doing so good last week. At the end of the year, everyone typically has alot going on. You guys have done a great job being consistent, and covering for others including myself when necessary. I know we all are appreciative.

Beginners Adults & Kids/Int Kids: Lets finish this week out with Side Mount Attacks for These classes. You can have them do dog fight to top half guard and then pass or just isolate some of those positions.  Feel free to also do guard recoveries as a extended warmup.

Advanced Adults: We’re going back to half and butterfly combination again from top and bottom

No Class nor open mat Saturday. Stop by the Good Fight to support some of our competitors. It’s local in Perry, and we will likely compete against one another….so be it. Our guys love it for some reason.

Next week, New month and some activities and events we have going on.

Nov 6- Yves Edwards Seminar!!!!!

Nov 13- I’m supposed to be doing a Women’s Self Defense Seminar in Cordele at a former student’s fitness academy.

Nov 20-We will likely do a “holiday shopper self defense” seminar that mirrors the one I’m doing in Cordele.

Additionally Lathon is FIGHTING that evening in ATL. If you can make it, make it. He does so much for us. Let’s support him in what I  consider to be an unveiling of a new man from who used to fight.

Nov 27- Gym is closed officially for that T-giving weekend. We will likely have an OPEN MAT at the very least. Stay tuned days closed that week.
