Recommence: Ask how the students are doing now that they have recommenced school? Have they worked on their greetings of others? Are they feeling over loaded with the structure from their summers off? Ask them what they think they can do get themselves focused on what’s important? If nobody says anything tell them to set a goal list.
BJJ: Defense to the Mount or back mount attacks we went over last week
Muay Thai! Let’s get the Youth and Adults excited about Master Katel coming in to perform a seminar as well as test everyone for their Prajied’s the “weekend” of September 30th! Let’s focus on basics to be dialed in. Let the kids understand they don’t need to be missing any Muay Thai between now and then. Be familiar with the Youth curriculum that Jesse has at the front desk.
Word of the Month : Recommence- To begin again
With school starting back this week we’re going to get back to some basics and get the kids having fun. Let’s start in Mount and work some Key lock or X choke or both, and some trap bridge and roll. If you had been long stepping make the connection that we got here via high stepping to mount from facing the hips possibly.
Ask the kids now that they are starting back, what are some things they want to do to start the school year fresh to set the tone right for the year, like a goal.
BJJ Adults: Continue to submit from Mount and back mount via leg drag and dope mount acquisition via long step.
Muay Thai: Basics See the curriculum from Katel , both for kids and adults. Let’s prep for Prajied testing end of this quarter/ beginning of 4th when we have Master Katel in.
Salutation: Make sure to give a good GREETING to all of the students this week. This goes for adults as well! Don’t leave anyone out. Tell the kids how important it is to say hello to ppl you know when you see them. Talk about how leaving someone hanging by not acknowledging them can make one feel left out. If you see a playa in the street what do you do? you Holla at em.
BJJ Continuation of the Long Step in Combination to lead to good position and Submissions
Sometimes a long step can lead to front headlock opportunities and top spins when the bottom player tracks with their upper body by belling out to attack the single/double
Other times when they track with their legs it leads to the taking of the back and leg weave opportunities. With the Youth and Adult No Gi use the first reaction and in the gi use the latter.
Muay Thai:
Jesse will be back like normal starting Wednesday. We are all glad to have you back dude
Congratulations Lindsey Jones! It was cool to go corner him and watch him implement the advice between rounds and turn this losing streak upside down.
Also I sometimes do things for organizations and I thought it best to let you guys know some of the things the academy has donated to lately.
Lastly for announcements, We have some blocks open for Tuesday Youth classes, Anyone wanting to volunteer some time in there is greatly appreciated. We can make it work no problem, but I’d like to keep Rex at the desk so he can deal with any questions from parents.
Stay tuned for Youth curriculums in the Morning along with WOM brief
BJJ: after some great positional training we are going to be getting into long step chain passing. the idea of the long step is lost and I’ve seen many ALMOST passes but due to inefficiency in the long step ppl are getting stuck in guard
Hey everyone, I hope this week went smooth for everyone. I know I & Jesse have appreciated all of the support offered from you guys to him and his family. We will be having a benefit Roll a thon or seminar or something on an upcoming weekend or during class even. I want to let Jesse get some time to get some things in order before we announce an event. If someone wants to give now please just point them in the direction of the goundme that his best friend and manager had set up for him.
This week I’ll be out of town until Wednesday when I get back. I’m getting the opportunity to go and shoot at a course put on some former DEVGRU Operators, they just asked if I’d come at no cost to me other than the ride out. Gotta say yes anytime high level performers want to share information with you. I appreciate all the help moving into next week. I’ll be making the schedule, if there’s Any issues, just let me know and I’ll make modifications as needed.
Word of the Month: Salutation-
a gesture or utterance made as a greeting or acknowledgment of another’s arrival or departure.
“we greeted them but no one returned our salutations”
With school starting in a month, it’s important to be able to give a proper greeting or salutation. Ask the students what are some ways you can greet someone you already know when you want to start a conversation, then ask how they think they should greet someone when it’s just in passing. Give them some feedback.
Adult Jiu Jitsu: Mostly LIVE. This week the students had a great time with all live goes, positional as well as regular rolling. Let’s get one more week of this. If we do have some trials, of course call the audible and work some fundamental that anyone could use. After working the arm bar position past several weeks, I could see the Triangle choke being a natural progression.
Youth Jiu Jitsu: Push pull Triangle Choke setup
ADV Youth JIU Jitsu: Move into omaplata rolling log sweep off the counter to the triangle choke.
Muay Thai: Standby
Schedule: Standby
Happy Juneteenth for those that celebrate. Summer is doing pretty good this year as far as class attendance goes. I couldn’t be happier with how the instruction is going with the Youth Classes.
BJJ: Let’s stay with Arm bar/ Spider web. Arm Bar should be setup from the mount. This can be done from the diamond setup or making and X and moving to white belt s mount.
Spider web Grip breaks to finishes or Escapes can be taught if they’re getting through it. This goes for Adults and Youth.
Muay Thai: Punches and Kicks.
Punch setups and Low to Mid kicks.
