Week of April 7-12: Fitness
Word of the Month is Fitness- Which should be a key topic that our competitors just saw is REQUIRED in the competition.

Review:
There’s a lot of hecticness leading into this spring and Summer but I wanted to let you guys know that we are doing so much better this year than the past 3 years. January was pretty good, it was great considering having to regroup to get a new stride at the front of house. We had the best February ever recorded and I appreciate everyone’s hard work. March dropped off a tad, but we opted to focus on doing an event instead of tightening up the systems at the school, and that carries its own kind of weight.
Schedule Issues that need fixin’
This week I’ll need someone to help with No Gi tonight, and to aid Andrew. With Hockey done, and Moon gone and Tim is going to be out some in the same timeline I’ve arranged to Not do scouts with Link the rest of the year, but I do have to take him and drop him off so I can’t be back on the mats to Help Andrew until 6:05 or so for every Monday until the new Summer Schedule. Additionally I’ll be running Muay Thai so if Shane or someone could cover No Gi tonight, that would be great.
NEXT 2 WEEKS: Tim is out of town and I can’t teach youth Muay Thai and little thrashers at the same exact time. So any volunteers for those two weeks would be HUGE for us to get through the much needed time off those guys need.
*I am actively looking for a Full Time Muay Thai Trainer, it is difficult to find within 100 miles of this area, and to get someone to move here for martial arts is difficult. But I am pulling from multiple resources to try to get a Brazilian Muay Thai Specialist or a Thai to move here to help. It may just take longer than I’d like. If you guys are thinking about becoming more well rounded then, come jump in one of my Thai classes while Moon is gone, we are going to tighten up on some fundamentals that I saw in the technical portion of the most recent testing.
Summer Schedule
I have also included the Summer Schedule and the start date of May 26th.. I like Monday Youth class, and I like Friday Youth class and I like Friday Muay Thai for our students but its becoming too much for me to handle, and I am missing out on more money than I make all year at the academy by not being on the road on the weekends to serve other communities, and I understand that everyone else likes to essentially have that same availability. so I’m going to constrict the schedule to a T-TH hard focus and easy Monday to make it to where it’s a little more manageable. Fridays are gone and will never come back. We are actually adding one more Muay Thai class a week for adults. we are just moving the youth comp class to Wednesday in place of No Gi and removing the Monday youth class. that may be going back into place in the fall, unless we see its easy to manage and we aren’t losing kids because of it.
Curriculums:
BJJ Curriculum: Guard Submission offense/Defense: but we need some from the guard. Guillotine offense and Defense would be great. to set up the guillotine you can remind them of the Kimura or Sit up/hip bump sweep to “set it up”. Make sure they get a choke and not a “neck crank”. Then lets get get on the defense. The defense is in the Vimeo blue belt test video where we get on our toes (off our knees) cut their hip , and fight the hands, reset with good posture.
Highlight the youth that competed and make sure they get a round of applause. each class if we have any kids in there. we really did great for a team with such few competitors. we will be focused on the lessons learned for the coming weeks, in the youth class.
Muay Thai curriculum: incorporate hooks into last weeks drills which was “punch, kick, reset, 12”
