Word of the Month: Goals! The object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or desired result
Goals Are important to have. Too Often we go through the motions without staying focused on the end state. What are some goals that the students have in their life? No response is too silly or dumb. Can be to save up money for a toy, beat a level of a video game, make a ____ Team for middle school next year, etc. the variety of ages will show you what they focus on.
Let’s Have a special GOAL SETTING Seminar Friday October 21st After the Muay Thai class at 7:30PM. Hang out on the mats. Collaborate on our goal setting and share some goals with one another that you don’t mind sharing. Some of us need some accountability.
Jiu Jitsu:
Double Leg>Sprawl>Front Head Lock Counter Attacks
Dedication: Remember that YOU aren’t the only one that needs to learn the importance of dedication. There are others around you all the time that aren’t dedicated and they need Leaders to show them what dedication really is. You can’t tell the younger or more inexperienced Jiu Jitsu students, you need to show them what it is. Do this by being disciplined during class and approach every piece of instruction with an attitude of one who is ready to learn and get better.
BJJ Theme: Side Mount Submissions
Remember, this is for competition. The students should have learned how to open the guard by standing or on the ground and pass the guard vs retention. Let’s now work on some side mount subs. Kimora, Key lock(Americana), Armbar, easier stuff for the kids.
Remember no open mat or class Saturday. I hope to roll with you guys 12-1:30 in Dublin!
WEEK 3 of Dedication: With a Competition Coming up, we must understand the life of a competitor. Competitors can’t just put in part time dedication but expect the full time results. We must come to Elite/Comp Class, come to open mat and train hard with other kids or adults. Jiu Jitsu is like anything else, put in the most perfect reps possible. What else can we do to be dedicated for our JJ when at home?
ADCC was spectacular, for those that need to see more of it, we have the FLO SPORTS app on the tv in the back room, you’re welcome to go back and pull up anything you need.
We opened the Close guard both standing and grounded and did appropriate passes as well as showed replacement. Lets work on passing the knee shield half guard This week after moving to it from the opener of your choice. After showing a Pass, show some retention from the knee shield half and how to get back to a guard of your choosing. Positional Training a lot.
Dedication: For one to be dedicated, what are some additional traits one must have? Hopefully the children answer with respect courage discipline as this is the answer to all things lol. but maybe some will say manners if they’re being dedicated to family, perseverance if they’re being dedicated to Jiu Jitsu or another new skill or sport. Get them to start thinking of how to be more of themselves.
Passing: Continue with starting from a guard opening. then move to a pass, new or old, then get the kids on an escape from side mount. If the kids are new, then shrimp or undertook escape, if they’ve been a while, maybe a shrimp to butterfly, or corkscrew escape.

Finish the month out on Rejuvenation, but we will begin the new curriculum
Opening of the Guard
-Opening the Closed guard while being grounded and chest to chest under hook passing options like
-old school, knee cut, knee cutting to the old school side, Double Under etc
-have them recover back to the guard with the appropriate re-guard technique from the finished position of side mount or mount
Advanced: Open the Guard standing or on the ground with passing attacks
Let’s all wish Jesse good luck on his bout this weekend in Memphis, TN.
We’re a little short on coaches for the 4:15-5 timeline, if anyone gets out of work early or has time to spare, I know it’d be appreciated to aid in corralling the kids. No Muay Thai on Friday night, that’ll be the only class we cancel for the week. I’ll try to post links in the team app as info comes in on any live stream.
Rejuvenation: Lung expansion and exercise can be a great way to rejuvenate after having a long tiring day at school. Lets get them the lung blast they need and close with some deep breathing techniques with some breath holds in a meditation or lying down position.
Positional Live: let’s work a lot of live goes or repeatable drilling with the techniques that were used this month. We can begin with a review if needed, and even let them go regular live at the end of classwork but lets get them
Word of the Month: Rejuvenation-Â The action or process of giving new energy or vigor to something
Week 3: https://vimeo.com/739705204
Youth– Use your offense, the opponent defends, and now the opponent must counter attack after their defense.
Adults-Â Continue the importance of takedowns but focus a little more on the ground work. Many of the adults bodies are taking a beating.
Word of the Month: Rejuvenation-Â The action or process of giving new energy or vigor to something
Week 2 : Who Else needs rejuvenating besides them? Parents. With the children getting back on schedule for back to school, the parents have adjusted their work and after school travel schedules just for them. To help Rejuvenate the life at home, lets help the parents out a little more during this time of Stress. 7 magic words (Yes sir , no sir, yes mam, no mam, please, thank you, Osu!). Helping with whatever duties they are capable of dependent on age. clean room, take out trash, feed the animals, do some dishes, keep living quarters from utter disarray. This will lead to more stability at home as everyone falls into the new routine.
Youth– ( last week)Standing fundamentals (punch blocks,Underhooks, Stance in motion, Sprawls, Body awareness)
Also point out the don’ts (staying on knees in sprawl, reaching for head throws and head locks) and the Why’s behind them.
new*Â add a defense to the above so Offense Defense. If there was a TD last week, add the Defense, and if they got it a counter. If the sprawl was the move teach a reshot.
Adults-Â (Last week)Re Cap on the Standing theme to the ground and add some Defensive Ground work.
