Week of 1/31-2/5: Word of the Month-Vigilance

VIGILANCE:-the action or state of keeping careful watch for possible danger or difficulties

Who are some people in today’s culture in real life or TV/MEDIA/COMICS that have/show vigilance? give high fives to kids that say firefighters, policemen, Military servicemen/women,Parents etc. Give power bombs to kids that say John Cena.

Ask the kids to think about and be grateful for those that act vigilantly toward them.

Kaleb didn’t compete this weekend, and Lance stepped in place of him while rolling at our own open mat. He had a great showing for the circumstance, but lost in Overtime rounds due to “ride time”. Good Job.

Lance is leaving for Florida for good, soon. I think we should have a get together before he leaves. Someone organize this shit, make sure Lathon is off, consider John as well. Dinner, drinks, whatever he wants to do , company is paying for it.

Curriculum: SPECIFIC TRAINING

This month flies by. I know we should be doing specific training on Tuesdays from positions set for the class. But I’d like to see that positional style training be done all month

Week One is Passing of the Guard from Half guard “ground” and Headquarters from a “standing” position. Go over techniques that lead to positional advancement and even subs this week. The positional training should start in the positions more neutral and work toward the ones you covered in class that led to the sub like Side mount, back mount, etc.

Should be a great month.

Congrats to Moon on getting the job done. Now More.

Kaleb is competing Saturday. I have a Boy Scout event I’m supposed to attend with Link, I have no idea if the time slots conflict or not, or if I’ll go (we’re a little behind on building a pinewood derby car). I’ll find out and be in touch with one of the instructors if we need you to help coach Kaleb on Saturday. The earliest the event will begin is 1pm ET. at 10 planet Perry.

I bounced around all last week through the schedule. It’s nice to be seeing more of what’s going on and I like all of it. You guys are doing great.

Ethos: re-address previous themes if you didn’t get a chance to (we were closed monday so I doubt the M/W crews got to answer properly since they couldn’t go home to do the HW on Monday to come back with a response Wed.

This week. Ethos can blend into another word: Creed. A creed re-inforces an ethos. A creed is a phrase a student repeats that is a goal of what they hope embody or become , as well as their commitment to doing so. Ask the student to write down their own creed and bring it in. I doubt all the students will do it. I will support you guys by posting in the team App what the kids are SUPPOSED  to do. If there are any assistant or lead instructors that are in the military, perhaps you could recite a creed or ethos or BOTH. I know the AF motto “Integrity First. Service before Self. Excellence in all that we do.” or something close to that. If you have a creed, please say it to the students. It’ll give them an idea of what to write.

Moon is stepping up on short notice to take a much needed bout. Go fucking dominate.

Ethos: Does your family have its own ethos? Talk to them to find out what is important to them on how they want you to be received by others. What changes can you make to uphold your family’s ethos?

Wrestling: Continue for Beginners and Advanced Kids

Adult Beginners: Continue Attacks from guard, Sweep and Sweep to submission. That could be completed or failed sweeps to the sub.

Advanced Beginners: Wednesday is a wrestling tournament. Who’s number one? Let’s find out.

We now know the definition of an ethos. The students should also know what our ethos is. Now ask them what are some ways they can implement each word into their daily lives. They should have a response by the next class they attend. Let the kids talk at length with regard to this.

Announcement 1: Great first week of classes guys. I know the MMA was a big hit. Let’s continue this trend and motivate our students to push harder whether that’s rolling harder, drilling smarter, or just making Martial Arts training more of a priority.

Announcement 2: I got the CoVid. Remember me. :). Keep on the DL, I just want you guys to know why you don’t see me on the schedule. Someone tell Shane he’s teaching Tuesday night. and tell him to not fuck this up.

Curriculums tomorrow.

Opening Year Statement

https://vimeo.com/662061256/9fadb6cad2

Word of the Month: Ethos- “The characteristic spirit of a culture, era, or community as manifested in its beliefs and aspirations.” What is our Ethos, its simple “Respect. Courage. Discipline.” All schools have an ethos, mascots usually represent that ethos in some kind of way. What’s your schools mascot? what do you think that means as far as the importance of the schools culture and its students? Think about our academies ethos and how we are trying to impact you as a martial artist.

Youth Classes 7+– Wrestling Beginners and Advanced

Of course we can go over all aspects of Jiu Jitsu, because that’s what we teach here. But make this whole month about developing our students WRESTLING capabilities. Getting on top, getting up from the bottom, Top control, Bottom escapes, making and breaking grips, Top Spins, sit outs, ALL THE FUN STUFF. Isolate the live training with specific training. Takedowns only. Hold em down in certain positions. start them off in positions like a single or unlocked double. king of the hill, get on top drills like when they sit back to back , both have singles ,etc. There are many things to use this month.

Let week 1 be about STANCE, HAND FIGHTING, DOUBLE LEG, SPRAWL

Beginner &. Advanced Adults: Takedown to Half Guard Passing vs guard recovery

Warmups should include break falls half shot drills, shrimp to guards, whatever the skillset of the room.
